30 Years Jewellery Experience
A St Raphael medal is a religious devotional medal honouring St Raphael the Archangel, one of the three archangels named in the Bible, along with Michael and Gabriel. Chain not included.
Meaning and symbolism
St Raphael is known as the Archangel of Healing and the patron of travellers, the blind, medical workers and happy meetings. His story appears in the Book of Tobit, where he heals Tobit's blindness and guides Tobias safely on his journey.
Wearing or carrying the medal is seen as asking for St Raphael's intercession for healing, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, for protection while travelling, or for guidance in life's important decisions.
Appearance
Many medals show St Raphael holding a staff and fish, both symbols from the Book of Tobit. Some show him with Tobias, whom he guided.
Uses
- Personal protection: travellers often wear it for safety.
- Healing intentions: worn, or given to someone who is ill.
- Spiritual guidance: a reminder to seek God's direction through Raphael's example.
