A solid 9KT yellow gold Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, stamped 375 and made in Italy. The devotion comes from the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Labour"e0 in Paris in 1830.
The front shows the Blessed Virgin Mary with rays of light streaming from her outstretched hands, symbolising the graces she bestows on those who ask. Around the image runs the inscription, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee", a reference to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. The reverse features a large "M" surmounted by a cross, with two hearts below: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, crowned with thorns, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, pierced by a sword. This side may also include twelve stars representing the twelve apostles.
The Miraculous Medal is believed to bring special graces to those who wear it with faith. By tradition, those who wear the medal, particularly after a priest has blessed it, receive the protection and intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many Catholics wear it daily as a sign of their devotion, and it is often given as a gift for baptisms, confirmations or first communions.
