The St Benedict Cross combines the traditional Christian cross with elements of the St Benedict Medal. It is associated with St Benedict of Nursia, founder of the Benedictine monastic tradition, and is used as a symbol of protection and faith.
Key features
Cruciform shape. The pendant is shaped like a traditional Christian cross, symbolising the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
St Benedict Medal. Set into the cross is the St Benedict Medal, inscribed with symbols and Latin abbreviations. These inscriptions are prayers for divine protection and strength against evil.
Inscriptions
Front of the medal:
- The image of St Benedict holding a cross and the book of the Benedictine rule.
- The phrase "Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur", meaning "May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death."
Back of the medal:
- A cross with the letters "C.S.P.B." (Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti), meaning "The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict."
- Around the cross, the letters "C.S.S.M.L. N.D.S.M.D." stand for "Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux! Nunquam Draco Sit Mihi Dux!", meaning "May the Holy Cross be my light! Let not the dragon be my guide!"
- The letters "V.R.S.N.S.M.V. S.M.Q.L.I.V.B." are abbreviations of a Latin exorcism prayer, asking for deliverance from evil.
Use
The St Benedict Cross is often worn as a necklace, hung in homes or placed in vehicles for protection and as a reminder of faith. It is believed to offer protection against spiritual dangers, temptations and evil. It is also a reminder of the spiritual legacy of St Benedict, particularly his emphasis on prayer, work and the fight against evil.

Damage caused by loss, accidental damage, mistreatment, modifications to the design, or exposure to perfume, hairspray, water or other agents is not covered by our workmanship guarantee; this does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
For an eligible refund, we process the refund within 3 days after we receive and approve the returned item.
