An 18kt Lady of the Miraculous Medal is a religious medal made from 18-karat gold, which is 75% pure gold mixed with 25% other metals for strength and durability. The medal is tied to the devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, a Marian devotion originating from the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830 in Paris, France.
Design
The front carries an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary with rays of light streaming from her outstretched hands, symbolising the graces she bestows on those who ask. Around this image runs the inscription, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee," a reference to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
The reverse features a large "M" surmounted by a cross, with two hearts below: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, crowned with thorns, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, pierced by a sword. This side may also include twelve stars, representing the twelve apostles.
